Migrant species such as these Tree Swallows are arriving daily with the warm weather in Toronto. The Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station was setup yesterday in preparation for the season opener on April 1. TTPBRS assistant Seabrooke Leckie visited the station today and found a Fox Sparrow, several Tree Swallows and an Eastern Phoebe among others.
Stay tuned for frequent updates throughout the spring period!
Warm temperatures today led to a trip down to Tommy Thompson Park. The highlight of the day was a Northern Shrike observed in the toplands area. It was otherwise very quiet for landbirds although there were good numbers of waterfowl around including; Gadwall, American Black Duck, Mallard, Greater Scaup, Redhead, Bufflehead, Long-tailed Duck and Common Goldeneye.
No signs of spring migrants yet although a warm front is due to arrive late this week which will bring in some new species to the area! This would be good timing given that we will be starting spring migration monitoring at TTPBRS on April 1st.
