A Visit in Winter

A visit to Tommy Thompson Park is enjoyable at any time of year and today was no exception. There were a surprising number of birds at the research station today which included:

Common Redpoll-12
Peregrine Falcon-1
American Goldfinch-8
Yellow-shafted Flicker-1
Northern Cardinal-2
Black-capped Chickadee-9 (all banded!)
Red-tailed Hawk-1
American Tree Sparrow-22

The highlight of the day was a Snowy Owl on the endikement tip which flew over to the Cell 3 embayment and sat on the ice edge for a spell. The bird was harrassed by gulls for about 10 minutes but seemed quite at home on the ice (:
