April 5-2005

Staff and volunteers setup the research station on April 1st. We now have a very handy solar panel for the banding lab! The first day of banding was fairly active with 37 birds banded. The total mainly consisted of Golden-crowned Kinglet, American Tree Sparrow and Song Sparrow.

Highlights from today included a single King Eider, 22 Glaucous Gulls and 3 Iceland Gulls! The Eider and Icelands were new species for the TTPBRS checklist. The Eider was actually spotted yesterday on census by Seabrooke Leckie. Also seen today was a lone Long-eared Owl sleeping in the cottonwoods near nets 12 and 13. This is the second LEOW for TTPBRS. A quiet day on the whole but these sightings certainly made up for it.

A more detailed account of the week will be submitted on Friday.
